By the end of 2014, the IBAN will be mandatory for all banking transactions in countries that use the euro
The Euro Payments regulation has been the foundation for the decision to create a Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). IBAN imposes a flexible but regular format sufficient for account identification and contains validation information to avoid errors of transcription.
